The 8YS Fuel Cell is a power converter series designed to help fuel cells with low DC output voltage deliver power to the grid. It addresses the challenge of converting fuel cell voltages (ranging from 60VDC to 600VDC) to the standard grid voltage of 400VAC. The system uses a two-stage approach, which includes a DC/AC AFE converter, an intermediate DC line (DC-LINK), and multiple resonant DC/DC converters that exchange energy between the fuel cell input and the DC-LINK. This design allows for high flexibility, efficiency, and safety. The system is modular and customizable, with isolated DC/DC converters that provide galvanic isolation between the fuel cell and the DC-LINK. An example system includes a 30kW fuel cell power converter using four DC/DC isolated converters (each at 7.5kW) and one DC/AC AFE inverter to boost the fuel cell output from 120VDC to the AC grid at 400VAC. The system is designed to meet various power requirements and is available in different models (8YC30, 8YC100, 8YC200, 8YC500) with varying rated power, voltage, and current specifications.

Use Cases

  • Grid connection of small-scale fuel cells (≈30kVA class).
  • Boosting 60–120VDC fuel cell output to DC-LINK level.
  • Providing galvanic isolation between fuel cell and grid interface.
