INEOS Technologies Ltd INEOS, through its INOVYN business, is Europe's largest existing operator of industrial electrolysis (the critical technology necessary to produce green hydrogen), currently producing around 400,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually with new electrolysis projects underway across Norway, Germany, and Belgium, and future plants planned in the UK and France. The company's Hydraeon alkaline water electrolysis (AWE) technology -- a multi-award-winning, modular 25MW system built on 125 years of chlor-alkali expertise -- delivers industrial-scale, ultra-low power consumption green hydrogen production for hard-to-abate sectors including steel, glass, and cement, engineered for power efficiency, scale-up, and sustainability without compromising operational performance. INEOS announced an investment of more than EUR 2 billion into European electrolysis projects to produce zero-carbon green hydrogen, representing Europe's largest-ever investment in electrolysis for this purpose, with the first 20MW electrolyzer to be built in Norway powered by zero-carbon electricity, leveraging INEOS Inovyn's existing experience in hydrogen storage and handling. As both a major user and producer of hydrogen with extensive experience in the chlor-alkali process (generating low-carbon hydrogen as a co-product with a footprint of approximately 0.55 kg CO2-equivalent per kg H2 using grid electricity), INEOS continues positioning itself at the heart of Europe's hydrogen transformation, supporting emerging demand for affordable, low-carbon energy across power generation, transportation, and industrial applications.
