The 890 Fuel Cell Test Loads is a multi-range programmable electronic load with ultra-low internal resistance, designed for full-voltage range evaluation of single cells. It features control signals for up to seven mass flow controllers, an electronic load with three current ranges for accurate measurement over a wide dynamic range, and continuous real-time cell resistance and IR-free voltage measurement via current interrupt. The device supports whole cell voltage and two high-impedance reference electrode inputs for half-cell data, offering constant current, voltage, or power control modes. It includes an impedance analyzer for EIS (Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy) and continuous real-time high-frequency resistance (HFR) measurement, enabling simultaneous 3-channel impedance measurement using whole cell and half-cell configurations. The 890 also has three internal controllers for anode and cathode humidifier and cell temperatures, contact inputs for three pressure sensors or alarms, output signals to control purge gas valves and indicate alarm conditions, and an RS485 digital interface for additional temperature controllers and serial devices. Safety features include automatic hardware shutdown for alarm conditions, ensuring safe and reliable operation. The device requires a custom or third-party fuel management unit to form a complete test station.
