Hyfindr Tech Talk #36 - Adhesives, Sealants and Coatings for Hydrogen Applications

In this tech talk, Steven had the pleasure of discussing about the adhesives, sealants, and coatings for hydrogen economy with Damir Biondic, Global Market Strategy & Intelligence Manager at Henkel.

Learn about Adhesives, Sealants and Coatings for Hydrogen Applications

Steven Oji and Damir Biondic from Henkel discuss how adhesives, sealants, and coatings are pivotal in advancing the hydrogen economy. Adhesives bond materials like metals and plastics crucial for creating efficient and durable structures such as electrolyzers and pipelines. Sealants prevent leaks in hydrogen systems, ensuring safety and efficiency. Coatings protect surfaces from hydrogen permeation, preventing embrittlement. Damir demonstrates the strength of adhesives in a practical demo, showcasing their ability to securely bond materials. Adhesives have an important role in innovation, making hydrogen technologies safer, more efficient, and cost-effective.

Adhesives are chemicals that bond materials together through a process of polymerization, creating strong connections without the need for mechanical fasteners like screws or bolts. He demonstrates this with a metal-to-metal bonding example, showcasing the strength and quick curing properties of modern adhesives.

Coatings, another aspect discussed, are highlighted for their protective roles in harsh environments, such as preventing hydrogen embrittlement in pipelines or structural components.
