Giner Labs Heavy Duty Fuel Cell MEAs are proton-exchange-membrane (PEM) membrane electrode assemblies developed for medium- and heavy-duty fuel-cell vehicle applications. The technology focuses on robust membrane, electrode and catalyst materials designed to address the more severe mechanical and chemical stresses associated with long-duty-cycle fuel cells, including impurities, start-stop operation, freeze-thaw exposure, humidity cycling and load cycling. Giner reports scaled MEA development using highly active Pt and ordered PtCo intermetallic nanoparticle catalysts and has demonstrated 50 cm² MEAs after a 10x scale-up. The manufacturer reports MEA performance above 1.6 W/cm² and a performance loss below 40 mV after 150,000 accelerated stress-test cycles for the reported development configuration.
