The EC22 / EC22 D is an electrochemical (EC) gas sensor with a diffusion measuring gas supply. It offers a measuring range dependent on the sensor, with an update time of 1 second and a readiness delay of 5 seconds plus a 20-90 second sensor run-in phase. It operates on a 24V DC power supply with an allowable range of 12-30V DC. The device features a 2.2 graphic display, 3 function buttons, and an AutoCal button for ZERO and SPAN adjustment. It has a protection class of IP54 and is made of plastic. The dimensions are 96 x 123 x 49 mm with a sensor, and the weight ranges from 120-150g to 170-195g depending on the version. It is approved for electromagnetic compatibility (DIN EN 50270:2015) and is suitable for various applications requiring precise gas measurement.

Use Cases

  • Typically used in hydrogen and related industrial applications

Capabilities

  • Continuous gas concentration measurement using electrochemical sensors with diffusion-based gas supply
  • Provides analog current outputs (4–20 mA or 0.2–1 mA) for integration with control and monitoring systems
  • Supports digital communication via RS-485 using Modbus protocol with selectable baud rates up to 38,400
  • Operates at a nominal supply voltage of 24 V DC (allowable range 12–30 V DC)
  • Operable within –20 to +50 °C, 20–90 % r.H., and 80–120 kPa, depending on sensor type
GfG Gesellschaft für Gerätebau mbH GfG Gesellschaft für Gerätebau mbH, headquartered in Dortmund, Germany with more than 60 years of experience protecting people, industrial facilities, and the environment, is among the world's leading manufacturers of both portable gas detectors and fixed gas detection systems, including dedicated hydrogen detection solutions. The company's hydrogen gas transmitters (including the CC22 series for methane/hydrogen/propane detection and the EC22 electrochemical transmitter for monitoring toxic gases, oxygen, or hydrogen) provide selective measurement to avoid unnecessarily expensive false alarms, with embedded software that linearizes the measuring signal and compensates for temperature impacts. GfG's Micro 5 G222E is the smallest and one of the lightest one-to-two-gas detectors with two electrochemical sensors (EC) in the world, designed for personal protection against toxic gases, hydrogen, and oxygen hazards, while its Polytector III series combines modern multi-gas detection for personal safety with confined-space analysis capabilities via an integrated pump. With ten international locations and an extensive range of portable monitors and fixed systems for toxic, explosive, and oxygen gas detection, GfG has deliberately avoided lithium-ion batteries in its portable gas detectors for safety reasons, supporting the hydrogen industry's growing safety monitoring requirements across production, storage, and refueling infrastructure.
