With the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) accelerating the national hydrogen strategy as of July 2023, the demand for safe, reliable, and regulation‑compliant sealing materials has significantly increased. GYLON EPIX® Style 3504 addresses these requirements by combining proven PTFE gasketing technology with the enhanced EPIX® surface structure for improved adaptability, compressibility, and sealing reliability.
Hydrogen applications—including green hydrogen from electrolysis and grey hydrogen from fossil sources—require sealing materials capable of withstanding gaseous H₂, cryogenic temperatures, rapid pressure changes, and chemically diverse environments. GYLON EPIX® Style 3504 is engineered to meet these challenges across the hydrogen value chain.
GYLON® and GYLON EPIX® Style 3504 have been tested by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) as part of the program “Characterization of polymer materials before and after storage in hydrogen.”
Results showed excellent material stability, confirming its suitability for safety‑critical hydrogen applications.
As with all third‑generation GYLON® PTFE materials, sealing tightness is validated via EN 13555 testing using helium, a molecule smaller than hydrogen. This ensures confidence in leakage performance, even for the smallest gas molecules.
Since hydrogen applications fall under TA‑Luft, Style 3504 supports the required leak‑tightness verification according to EN 1591‑1 and VDI 2290, including creep behavior and surface pressure limitations.
GYLON EPIX® Style 3504 is suitable for a wide range of hydrogen applications, including:
